Public libraries, literary art activities and social inclusion

This paper focuses on literary art activities in public libraries. The aim is to stimulate discussion on how literary art activities can promote socially sustainable development, a sense of community, and social inclusion. In Finland, public libraries organise low-threshold literary art activities that encourage both written and verbal expression, e.g. literary art clubs, rap and comics workshops, and creative writing groups. Literary art activities provide opportunities for the improvement of literacy, self-expression and social readiness, and the strengthening of self-esteem and identity. Lasten ja nuorten heikkenevä lukutaito on viime vuosina herättänyt huolta niin tieteellisessä kuin julkisessa keskustelussa. Herättelijöinä ovat toimineet ennen kaikkea Pisa-tutkimukset, jotka ovat raportoineet suomalaisnuorten peruskoulussa saavutetun lukutaidon laskusta. Vaikka Suomi sijoittuukin edelleen kärkijoukkoon, esimerkiksi ero erinomaisesti ja heikosti lukevien välillä on kasvanut, samoin kuin erot tyttöjen ja poikien välillä. Abstract The economic growth and national competitiveness is closely correlated with the development of information society. In the last few years the role of public libraries has significantly increased and libraries have greatly contributed to the improvement of information society in Latvia. The usage of library services had never been as high as they were in 2011 – 42% of the population were active library users and 90% of them used the Internet. Nowadays, the public library network in Latvia provides a powerful network of information, knowledge and community centres and they are highly demanded by society.

Bibliotekāru iesaistīšanās darbā viena darbinieka bibliotēkās ir viens no bibliotēkas ikdienas procesu kvalitatīvas un efektīvas izpildes aspektiem. Apzinot personāla iesaistīšanās faktorus, ir iespējams noteikt un uzlabot bibliotekāru iesaistīšanos darbā. Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot, vai viena darbinieka publiskajās bibliotēkās strādājošie bibliotekāri ir darbā iesaistījušies, un kādi faktori ietekmē to iesaistīšanos darbā. Pētījuma ievaros veikta viena darbinieka publisko bibliotēku bibliotekāru anketēšana un intervijas. Communication of Dienvidkurzemes region libraries on social media during Covid-19

Jau vairāk nekā desmit gadus dažādas sociālo tīklu vietnes lielai sabiedrības daļai ir kļuvušas par galveno saziņas veidu ar draugiem, radiem, kā arī ar uzņēmumiem un valsts pārvaldes iestādēm, tai skaitā ar bibliotēkām. Covid-19 laiks parādīja to, ka sociālo tīklu vietnes patiesi ir nozīmīgs komunikācijas kanāls daudziem uzņēmumiem un organizācijām. Autores pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot, kā Dienvidkurzemes novada publiskajās bibliotēkās mainījās informācijas nodošanas paradumi to klientiem un lietotājiem un vai komunikācija sociālo tīklu vietnēs kļuva aktīvāka.
